Leave the coat on or take it off?
Coals on the fire and heaps of turf
Chapped are my lips from the wind and the cold
Dull is my skin, I'm feeling old.
The nights are dark
But light will come soon
I'm not too convinced
While I stare at the moon.
Big woolie jumpers, thermals will do
A trip to the shops
But return looking blue.
Hot tea, toast or stews
Better get 'em down ye
Before the others are due.
I'm tired of the darkness, the cold and the rain
Will I ever see the blessed sun again.
'Not long now' my mother would say
Passing the daffodils that swoon and sway.
I'm still not convinced
This spring has sprung at all
For I'm still in my coat
My thermals and all.
