Surviving from 1932, this certificate commemorates the great event of the 31st International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin.
The print shows images of the Sacred Heart, and Pope Pius XI. On either side are the papal coat of arms and that of the four provinces of Ireland.
Faded and marked by time, it hung in the Gleeson family home in Dodsboro for many years.
It has an added piece of local history, making it extra special……..
When St. Patrick's Church in Esker was consecrated on Sunday, October 6th 1985, Mrs. Gleeson who was then the oldest resident in the parish, carried the framed scroll in the offertory procession on the day.
If you have access to the internet, you can view the certificate in full colour in our 'Local Interest' section and also in the archive edition for this week.
No doubt, there are other items /memorabilia from 1932, in the homes of Lucan – we'd love to hear about them.
