Wedding at St. Mary’s in the 1940s

This picture caught our eye in Mrs. Howlett’s Album because of the Guard of Honour Rifles.

More than likely, they were members of the LDF – Local Defence Force – who had a branch in Lucan during the war years.

The bride (on the left), is Annie Graham and the groom is Larry Behan. Annie’s father Jock Graham is just behind the happy couple.
The bridesmaid is her sister Agnes and the best man is thought to be (?) Dignam.

The wedding party is pictured at the old main door of the church.

How many people remember Weir View houses before the walls and gardens were out the front?
Pictured sitting on her doorstep is Mrs. Sweeney, her daughter Maura and Pat Howlett, son of the photographer.
The view is looking towards Hills Mill, and the old office building on the bridge is just about visible on the right of the picture.
