The Non-Stop Draw

book cover

This picture was taken at the weekly draw in the Muintir na Tire Town Hall, probably at the end of the 1950s.

The priest at the centre is the young Fr. James Loughran who was Curate in Lucan at the time, and Little Joe Dignam is seen drawing the winning ticket.

On either side of Fr. Loughran are Jim and Mary Kirby who lived in Canonbrook House, and owned The Kangaroo cafe at the time.

The draw was a weekly fund-raiser for the Presentation Girls School with tickets costing 1/- (1 shilling) - Little Joe was one of its best ticket sellers. The seven prizes ranged from £10 to £1.

Thank you to Betty Collins for sending in the photo.
