Yellow flames dancing and rising high
Fuelled by briquettes and turf
A centre red glow
Visible through the grate bars
A welcome sight
In a Ballyvaughan Inn
Where outside
The Atlantic waves roll and break
Against the harbour wall.
Across the bay
The lights of Galway shine
They too create a haze of light
Reaching upwards
Into the dark night sky.
But Ballyvaughan has captured my heart
Soothing it
Embracing it
Quietly letting a stillness creep into my being
A welcome respite
In turbulent times
Fortifying me in readiness
For the months ahead.
