Imagine Summer 2021

<< Back to the main Stories/poems page

By Benny, Hillcrest

Close your eyes and take to the skies
Fly to the places that Covid denies
The pilot advises to fasten your belt
Your now as excited as you've ever felt

You're off to the sun, sangria and sand
It's taken much longer than you ever planned
Sit back and imagine that lunch on the beach
Sipping a cocktail of vodka and peach

A swim in the ocean as warm as a bath
Young lovers out bathing would gladden your heart
Lie on the sand and soak up the sun
Keep your eyes closed, the dreams just begun

Walk to the harbour and watch the sun set
Or a fisherman struggling to untangle his net
Girls is white dresses showing off their new tans
Children on the carousels cheered on by their mams

The smell of steak and fish as it's cooked
The table by the window that earlier you booked
A glass of champagne to welcome you there
The sun slipped away as you examine the fare

The rain on the window, wakes you up from your dream,
Now off to your doctor to get that vaccine
