No Valentine

<< Back to the main Stories/poems page

Valentines Day
and I got No card again,
I’m nobody’s sweetheart
And wonder if ever or when.
I’ll go out tonight
To dine at a table for one,
Stay back and chat
To a waiter when everyone’s gone.
Move on to a scene
Where they play my kind of sound,
Stand by the bar,
And watch the romance all around.
Maybe somebody
Like me will happen along,
The house wine will help us
To help one another be strong.
Going home through the dawn
Affairs of the night will linger
With little regard,
An old street sweeper
Is sweeping my dreams,
Maybe next year a Valentine Card.
