This year I’ve decided
To make a resolution
Maybe it could be that
I’d try to stop pollution.
Maybe I could try being nice
To my younger brother.
(Because the idea of giving up sweets just makes me start to shudder).
I could start to, after every meal,
Wash up all the dishes,
That would be the answer to
My Mother’s greatest wishes.
I might get up early every morning,
Without a small complaint
And maybe the old dusty shed
Is something I could paint.
I figure that this long, long list
Will take quite some compution
To decide which one gets to be
My New Year’s Resolution.
By Oisín O’Sullivan, age 11.
