Semicolon

<< Back to the main Stories/poems page

”Life is similar to a semicolon.
A semicolon is used when a sentence could have been ended, but wasn’t”

Some people fear my placement
And press delete and
Whoosh………….

I’m dismissed to the Trash can
Without a second thought.
I sit amidst the rubbish
Holding back my tears
The shame, humiliation
Compounded by the guilt
Of letting down the neighbours
Of the punctuation set.

Life is similar to a semicolon.
A semicolon is used when a sentence could have been ended, but it wasn’t’

Punctuation aids interpretation
It differentiates one clause from the other
(No, no, not our seasonal mate,
That’s Mr Claus to adults
or just Santy to young mates).
How the advent of text and twitter
Has reduced my humble state
So many have no notion
Of the difference I can make
To the understanding of that noble language
The Queen’s English by name.
