Why did they take our mammy, dad?
Sure she never harmed a fly,
She followed all their silly rules,
And was as sweet as apple pie,
Why did they take our mammy, dad?
Will they let her go today?
The bingo bus is revving up,
And will soon be on its way,
Why did they take our mammy, dad?
On a cold November night,
Did you see the angels by her side?
Wings twitching in the light,
Why did they take our mammy, dad?
Did they need a heart of gold?
Of course she had the richest vein,
If the truth were ever told,
Why did they take our mammy, dad?
It makes no sense to us,
She kept us warm in tender arms,
And never caused a fuss,
Why did they take our mammy, dad?
A gentle soul who darned our socks,
And the home she built so lovingly,
Is now missing its main block.
